East Lansing, Mich. – Four members of Michigan State’s men’s and women’s golf team will take part in the 2021 Patriot All-America Invitational collegiate tournament, to be played at The Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Ariz., December 27-31.
Competitive rounds for the 2021 Patriot All America will be played on December 29, 30, and 31 with a champion crowned in the afternoon on New Year’s Eve.
Throughout the competition, each competitor will honor a fallen soldier from one of the six military branches by carrying a custom PING golf bag with the individual’s name and rank embroidered onto it.
Representing Michigan State will be senior men’s golfers James Piot (Canton, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) and Troy Taylor (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South), while the women’s team will be represented by senior Valery Plata (Floridablanca, Colombia/Colegio La Quinta del Puente) and freshman Brooke Biermann (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette).
Michigan State is one of only six schools nationally to have at least four players competing in the tournament (Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Texas).
Invitations to The Patriot All-America are primarily based on individuals earning PING All-America honors the previous season in NCAA Divisions I, II and III as well as the NAIA and NJCAA Divisions I and II.
Additionally, a member from each of the nation’s military academies are invited as well as GCAA national award recipients, members of the most recent Arnold Palmer Cup Teams and AJGA All-Americans, and Toyota Junior Golf World Cup participants currently enrolled in their freshman year of college.
