SAN BERNARDINO — The Redlands High girls’ soccer team was unbeaten in its three previous games and continued the momentum Wednesday, Dec. 22, in the San Gorgonio tournament.
The Terriers edged Arroyo Valley of San Bernardino 1-0 in their first game that day before dropping a 1-0 decision to Brea Olinda in an afternoon game.
The split left Redlands at 8-5-1 — still one of the best starts to a season for the Terriers in recent years.
Carol Tadros provided the only goal Redlands needed against the Hawks midway through the first half.
“I dribbled down the middle and got between a few defenders and then shot it at the left side of the goal,” said Tadros, a freshman. “I was excited. It had been a few games since I scored so it was a nice feeling.”
Tadros said she has been playing since she was 7 years old.
“Carol Tadros with her ability to finish on goal is adifference maker,” Redlands third-year coach Mario Marquez said. “We also got good defensive efforts from Rylee Lawson and Emy Meinke.”
Lawson is a senior forward and Meinke a freshman defender.
Redlands’ setback to Brea Olinda was its first defeat since falling to Victor Valley 2-1 in two overtimes on Dec. 4.
In boys’ action, Redlands fell to Colton 1-0 and defeated Serrano of Phelan 2-1 in the San Gorgonio tournament.
For the Redlands boys against Serrano, Troy Eigersma and Dylan Larrando had goals.
In other games involving Redlands Unified teams, the Redlands East Valley girls fell to Alta Loma of Rancho Cucamonga 1-0 and defeated Patriot of Riverside 5-0.
The tourney was scheduled to continue Monday, Dec. 27 but recent rains have caused a cancellation of the rest of the event due to the San Bernardino Soccer Complex being unavailable for the continuation date.
