BALTIMORE, Md. (January 4, 2022) – Morgan State head tennis coach Matthew Townes announced the 2022 Morgan State women’s tennis schedule. The spring schedule features 19 contests, including four at home and is highlighted by a two-day Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round-Up.
The Lady Bears, who had their 2020 season cut short due to Covid-19 and didn’t play during the 2021 campaign, will take the court for the first time in 2022 when they visit George Washington (Jan. 19). It will be the program’s first contest since March 11, 2020 – a 6-1 win over Loyola Maryland.
Morgan State will welcome Saint Francis-Pa. to Baltimore for its home opener on Jan. 23, before taking to the road for matches at Navy (Jan. 30) and at James Madison (Feb. 20).
The Lady Bears return home for back-to-back contests against Georgetown (March 5) and Harford Community College (March 6), before returning to the road to face Elon (March 13) and former MEAC foe North Carolina A&T (March 16).
Next up will be the three-day MEAC Round-Up in Cary, N.C. (March 17-19), where Morgan State will face members of the MEAC’s Southern Division. Morgan State will take on North Carolina Central (March 17), Norfolk State (March 18) and close out against South Carolina State (March 19).
Morgan’s next seven contests will be on the road, beginning with non-conference contests at Loyola Maryland (March 24), at Bloomsburg (March 29) and at Temple (March 30).
The Lady Bears will be the MEAC slate at Howard (April 2) and at Delaware State (April 4), before returning to non-conference action at the University of Delaware (April 12). Morgan State will conclude its road schedule against MEAC rival Coppin State (April 16), before closing out the regular season at home against nearby foe Johns Hopkins (April 17).
The 2022 MEAC Championship will take place Thursday, April 28-Saturday, April 30 at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, N.C. and will be hosted by North Carolina Central.
“The ladies had a tremendous Fall; they trained hard every day and competed at a high level at every event we entered,” said Townes. “We are excited to start competing as a team. Our expectations are high, and we look forward to rising to the occasion. Go Bears!”
