Cal senior Yuta Kikuchi is unbeaten through two days at the Hawaii Invitational.
HONOLULU – Yuta Kikuchi and Carl Emil Overbeck won in singles and partnered to win in doubles on Friday, as the Cal men’s tennis team competed on day two of the Hawaii Invitational.
The Golden Bears were 5-0 in singles, including Kikuchi’s 6-1, 7-6(4) victory over BYU’s Jack Barnett and Overbeck’s 6-0, 7-6(5) win over BYUs Mateo Vereau. Overbeck and Kikuchi beat Hawaii’s Blaz Seric and Karl Collins, 8-2, in doubles at the UH Tennis Complex.
Cal freshman Derrick Chen, playing in his first collegiate tournament, also beat Hawaii’s Karl Collins, 6-2, 6-4, to go 2-0 in singles through the first two days of the invitational.
Hawaii’s tournament ends on Saturday, with doubles starting at 2:30 p.m. HT and singles following at about 3 p.m. HT.
