Carlos “Chema” Ocampo from Ensenada seeks to rise in the world rankings this year, and the task will begin on Saturday, when he faces the Panamanian Omir Rodriguez in the main fight of a card in which Zanfer will open up their 2022 season.
The card will be held in the Zonkeys Auditorium in Tijuana, with the fights being broadcast live by Azteca 7.
“Chema” Ocampo (31-1, 19 KO’s) and “Guerrero” Rodriguez (11-3-1, 5 KO’s) will fight over ten rounds in the super welterweight division.
The Mexican boxer will pursue his tenth consecutive victory. He’s been unbeaten since June 2018, when he suffered a knockout loss at the hands of Errol Spence.
Ocampo is ranked 12th by the WBO at 154 pounds and intends to secure a top five position before the end of the year.
Also on the card, Tijuana’s Dubiel Sanchez (17-1-2, 12 KO’s) will enter the ring, in a fight against Chihuahuan Jesús Antonio “Kid Kick” Rojas ( 12-9-2, 10 KO’s), in an eight round duel at super welterweight.
And in another international fight, Omar “Super” Salcido from Sonora (15-0, 10 KO’s) will risk his undefeated record against experienced Colombian Dunis Linan (25-48-6, 17 KO’s), in a six round lightweight duel.
The fight between Salcido and Linan will be a revenge of their bout from April 2021. They met in Hermosillo, and Salcido emerged victorious on points in a highly competitive fight in which the Colombian challenger closed the last two rounds in a spectacular way. After that contest, Salcido won two fights by knockout.
And another international-style fight, David “Rey” Picasso (19-0-1, 8 KO’s) will face Peruvian César Ignacio “Zurdo over ten rounds at super bantamweight.
