Perhaps this will stoke some hope for the 2022 season starting on time. On Friday, MLB insider Jon Morosi dropped some good news on the spring training front. The Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies will face off against one another on March 18th and 19th. The catch is, they’re playing in Las Vegas.
Right off the bat, the idea of the D-backs and Rockies playing one another isn’t a surprise. The two teams share a spring training home, Salt Rivers Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, Arizona. Arguably one of the prettier facilities in the Cactus League.
At any rate, if the league is committing itself to play in Nevada in March, there must be high hopes that MLB and the MLBPA can come to an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement well before then. Or this will crash and burn right in Rob Manfred’s face.
Pitchers and catchers are tentatively scheduled to report to spring training the week of February 14th. However, that date is highly unlikely to happen.
