DURHAM – Duke track and field graduate student Donovan Spearman has been named Duke’s PNC Achievers Student-Athlete of the Week, following his record-breaking Duke debut at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va., Friday evening.
Spearman’s debut was one to remember and highlighted a strong first day of competition at the Virginia Tech Invitational. The Gardena, Calif., native clocked 6.71 seconds to record the fastest 60m dash time in Duke history, shattering Randy Jones’ previous school record of 6.74c seconds that stood for 30 years. Spearman’s time was also an event PR.
Duke track and field resumes competition this weekend as the Blue Devils head back to Blacksburg, Va., for the Hokie Invitational Jan. 21-22.
