The only weekday playoff game this post season is on Monday, Jan. 17, which will showcase the Rams vs. Cardinals game on ABC and ESPN.
This is the first time a wild-card game will take place on a weekday; typically, there are three games on Saturday and Sunday. However, this year, there will be two games on Saturday, three on Sunday and one on Monday.
While this isn’t the first year that a playoff game will be broadcast on ABC and ESPN, it is the first time that these networks will broadcast a game on Monday night.

Why is there a playoff game on Monday night?
Back in October, ESPN earned the rights to host one wild-card game on Monday night for the next five seasons, including this season. The wild-card game will be the only game ESPN broadcasts during the 2022 playoffs.
Last season, the NFL expanded the playoffs by adding an additional seed for each conference. With that addition, an extra game was added to the playoff schedule. So, the move to Monday night works as a way to spread out the games a bit more instead of having three on each day of the weekend.
What channel is Rams vs. Cardinals on?
The main broadcast for the game will be on ABC and ESPN at 8:15 p.m. ET. The typical “Monday Night Football” announcing crew will work the wild-card game, which includes Steve Levy, Brian Griese, Louis Riddick, Lisa Salters and John Parry.
ESPN has hosted “Monday Night Football” since 2006, so a game on ESPN on Monday night isn’t out of the ordinary. This season, ESPN2 began a show hosted by Peyton and Eli Manning dubbed the “Manningcast” that ran during 10 of the “Monday Night Football” games. The “Manningcast” will also be broadcasting simultaneously on Monday night; this is the show’s first NFL playoff game.
