WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. — The No. 9 Texas Men’s Golf team posted a 17-over-par 305 on Wednesday to finish in eighth place at the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club. Junior Travis Vick registered a 2-over-par 74 on Wednesday and tied for fourth in the individual standings with a 54-hole total of 5-under-par 211 (70-67-74).
The Longhorns recorded a three-round score of 22-over-par 886 (289-292-305) in their first tournament of the spring season. No. 2 Arizona State won the event with a 54-hole total of 30-under 834 (283-275-276). No. 5 and tourney host Pepperdine was second at 17-under-par 847 (287-277-283). The 12-team field at the Southwestern Invitational included six squads that are ranked in the Top 25 of the latest Division I Bushnell Golfweek Coaches poll (Nov. 19).
Vick’s tie for fourth place marked a season-best finish, topping his tie for seventh place at the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 13-15). Arizona State’s David Puig claimed medalist honors with a three-round score of 8-under-par 208 (73-70-65), while Michael Brennan of Wake Forest and Cameron Sisk of Arizona State tied for second at 6-under-par 210.
Texas returns to the course on Feb. 3-5 (Thursday-Saturday) at the Amer Ari in Waimea, Hawaii.
The Lineup

- Senior Cole Hammer notched a 4-over-par 76 in his final round to tie for 27th place at 3-over-par 219 (68-75-76).
- Junior Mason Nome tallied a 9-over-par 81 on Wednesday to tie for 48th at 14-over-par 230 (75-74-81).
- Freshman Alejandro Gonzalez carded a 7-over-par 79 in the final round to tie for 50th at 15-over-par 231 (76-76-79).
- Junior Will Thomson had his best round of the tournament on Wednesday, firing a 4-over-par 76 to tie for 59th at 19-over-par 235 (79-80-76). Thomson registered four birdies during his final round.
