MINNEAPOLIS – As the University of Minnesota soccer team prepares for its 2022 season this fall, it now knows the path necessary to reach the postseason as the Big Ten announced dates for the 10-match conference slate.
Six of the opponents on the league’s schedule reached the NCAA Tournament a season ago, including Rutgers, a squad that made the 2021 College Cup after a perfect 10-0 regular season in Big Ten action.
The Gophers open conference play on the road at Nebraska for a rare Friday night matchup Sept. 16 before returning home for their next three contests. Minnesota hosts Indiana (Sept. 22), Northwestern (Sept. 25) and defending conference tournament champion Michigan (Sept. 29) at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
Four of the final six matches will be away from home as the team heads to Madison to take on Wisconsin Oct. 2 for the 2022 Border Battle followed by another rivalry Oct. 9 facing Iowa at ELR Stadium. A trip to the east coast is set for mid-October as the Gophers face Rutgers (Oct. 13) and Maryland (Oct. 16).
The final home match of the regular season is scheduled for Oct. 20 welcoming Purdue to campus before playing at Illinois in the finale Oct. 23.
The top eight teams advance to the Big Ten Championships Oct. 30-Nov. 6 with three rounds of matches to determine the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
