The UT Martin men and Murray State women have been picked as the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference golf favorites in a vote of league head coaches released on Friday.
On men’s side defending champion UT Martin picked up four of the nine first-place votes to finish with 60 points (the first time they have been picked first in the poll). That was just ahead of Tennessee Tech, who picked up three first-place votes, to tally 54 points, while Belmont received the other two first-place nods to garner 51 points. Morehead State was picked fourth (45) and followed by SIUE (37), Austin Peay (29), Murray State (25), Tennessee State (14) and Eastern Illinois (9).
The women’s vote saw Murray State pick up five of the seven first-place votes to finish with 34 points. The Racers finished ahead of Belmont (30) and Austin Peay (28) who each picked up one first-place vote apiece. Morehead State was tabbed fourth (20) and followed by Tennessee Tech (18), Eastern Illinois (10) and Tennessee State (7).
The OVC Women’s Golf Championship will be contested April 17-19 on the Fighting Joe Course at RTJ at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The men’s event will be held April 24-27 at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. This year marks the first for the men’s championship to be decided by match play (semifinals and final following three rounds of stroke play).
