SPRINGFIELD — The Helias Crusader boys golf program was inducted Sunday into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
The Crusaders have won four state championships (1958, 1983, 1993, 1994) and finished second five times (1984, 1986, 1997 1998 and 2018.
Helias has 15 total top-four finishes at the state tournament, the sixth highest total in state history. The Crusaders have advanced as a team to state 26 times and have 52 all-state individuals.
Four Crusaders — Perry Leslie (1960), John Daly (1983), Ethan Rost (1993) and Connor McHenry (2005, 2006) — have won individual state titles.
Helias was inducted in the team/program category.
Ray Hentges, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013 as a football coach, led the boys golf program for 34 seasons.
The Helias wrestling program was also inducted in 2013.
Among the other inductees Sunday were:
• Willie Roaf, a former offensive lineman for the Kansas City Chiefs.
• Matt Holliday, a former outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals.
• Forrest Lucas, founder of Lucas Oil, the namesake for Lucas Oil Speedway and Lucas Oil Stadium.
• Ken Morrow, a 1980 gold medalist for the U.S. hockey team and a four-time Stanley Cup champion.
• Rich Gould, a St. Louis TV sports director.
• Julie Dorn, an All-American gymnast at Missouri.
• Tim Poe, the golf coach at the University of Central Missouri.
• Steve Hesser, a former Glendale High School and Drury University basketball coach.
• Jon Leamy, the recently retired Missouri State University men’s soccer coach.
• 1984-91 West Plains High School volleyball era.
• Rick Byers, the former football coach at St. Piux X: Kansas City High School.
• 1998-2002 St. Pius X: Kansas City High School football era.
• Grain Valley High School cheerleading program.
