NIGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The Niagara men’s and women’s tennis programs will travel to Lafayette and Hobart this weekend to continue their spring schedules.
Last Time Out
Men’s Tennis
• Niagara fell to Colgate 4-3 last Sunday to finish the weekend 1-2 overall.
• Trevor Masi picked up a win in the No. 1 singles slot as he defeated Colgate’s Gupta, 7-6(7-4), 6-3.
• Niagara’s Tanner Bedard also won his match in third singles, dropping his opponent in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.
• Jorge Sedeno dispatched his opponent in on court four, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.
• Gurustat Makkar won the first set of his No. 6 singles match with Colgate’s Graham, 6-4, but Graham rebounded to take the next two sets, 6-2, 6-4.
• Manuel Alonso and Reberto Vaca fell in straight-sets.
• Masi and Bedard won their doubles match on court one by the final score of 6-3.
• Niagara would fall in No. 2 and No. 3 singles, giving the Raiders the point.
Women’s Tennis
• The Purple and White fell to 0-7 on the season with a 4-3 loss to Colgate last Sunday.
• Jaida Borg picked up a win in No. 4 singles as she defeated Colgate’s Wolf, 6-1, 6-2.
• Erika Gonzalez also won her match in No. 5 singles, defeating Colgate’s Atallah, 6-4, 6-2.
• Niagara’s Mercedes Velasco took Colgate’s Untermeyer to three sets (7-5, 4-6, 0-6) but it was the Raider who came out on top.
• Coral Rodriguez also took her opponent to three sets after winning the second set. Colgate’s Ben-Shmuel would take the point after winning the third set, 7-5.
• Elena Mayet and Megan Gamble fell in No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.
• Gambel and Rodriquez won their No. 1 doubles match against Colgate’s Eklund and Ben-Shmuel, 7-5.
• Niagara also picked up the No. 3 doubles win as Mayet and Velasco defeated Colgate’s pairing, 6-2, to secure the point for the Purple Eagles.
Niagara Notes
Men’s Tennis
• Bedard was named MAAC Player of the Week after going 3-0 last weekend. The freshman is 6-0 on the season.
• Masi is also 6-0 on the season, picking up five wins in the No. 2 slot.
• Vaca is 3-3 in dual match singles competition this season.
• Gothlin and Alonso are 3-1 at No. 2 doubles this season, while Sedeno and Villalpando are 3-0 at the No. 3 position.
• Niagara is 12-6 during dual match doubles action.
Women’s Tennis
• Gonzalez has a team-high three wins in singles action this season.
• Velasco and Mayet and Gamble and Rodriguez are 1-0 as pairings this season during dual matches.
• Niagara is still looking for its first dual match win of the 2021-22 season.
