Head coach Davis Interview
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Tennis continues the 2022 spring campaign this weekend. The Lady Toppers host a doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 27 against UT Chattanooga and Tennessee State.
Doubles play, outdoors, at the WKU Tennis Complex will begin at 1 p.m. against UT Chattanooga and 6 p.m. against Tennessee State.
“These are two teams that we have not seen for a while. UT Chattanooga, when we have played them, they have had our number, unfortunately.” head coach Greg Davis said. “They are very well coached and deep, so as you look out onto the court, six singles, three doubles, it is just going to be a knock-down, drag-out. There are not going to be any easy matches.”
Last weekend, WKU played two home matches against Ball State and North Alabama. The Lady Toppers lost to the Cardinals on Saturday, 5-2. They were able to get back on track on Sunday, beating the Lions, 5-2 in their first outdoors match of the season.
WKU is 2-7 all-time against UT Chattanooga, playing for the first time in 1982. The Lady Toppers beat the Mocs for the first time in program history, 4-2 in Bowling Green. WKU took the victory, again, the following year beating UT Chattanooga, 4-1, in Chattanooga. Last season, the Lady Toppers visited the Mocs in Chattanooga, losing the dual match, 5-2.
UT Chattanooga had a dual match record of 8-5 in 2020 before the remainder of the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, they held a record of 9-9, going 2-5 in Southern Conference play.
The Mocs have a 5-4 record after beating Montreat College last Thursday by a score of 4-2.
The Lady Toppers are 27-1 all-time against Tennessee State. The sides faced off last in the 2020 season that was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. WKU won the match in Nashville, 4-0.
