The MLB is in the midst of a dire crisis. Rumors of a potential lockout circulated even before the end of the 2021 MLB playoffs, but were dismissed by most. However, with the MLBPA and the owners being unable to meet in the middle, talks regarding a new CBA have stalled. Guys like New York Mets star pitcher Max Scherzer will potentially lose over $200,000 in earning every day.
There’s no wonder, then, why there’s an aura of gloom amongst MLB fans. Scherzer, the newest acquisition of the Mets, seem to echo this feeling. While signing autographs for fans, the former Cy Young awardee shared his insight on the state of discussion. It’s… well, not good, to say the least. (via Derrick S. Goold)

The MLBPA has been pushing for some changes to the Collective Bargaining Agreement of the league. The owners, however, refuse to budge, as both sides are unwilling to concede with their demands. With the deadline for discussion a mere two days away, it’s becoming increasingly likely for Scherzer, the Mets, and other teams to forfeit part of their salary due to cancelled games.
Mets fans were hopeful to see Scherzer play for New York this season. After spending the season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the former Cy Young awardee joined his current team. A starting pitcher rotation consisting of Scherzer and ace pitcher Jacob deGrom would’ve been glorious to see.
Instead, we might be seeing a potentially long delay to the start of the season. The way things are going, it seems that one side will need to concede in order for talks to go smoothly.
