WALPOLE, Mass. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s tennis team won two of three doubles matches but could manage only one victory in singles and the Engineers dropped a non-league match at Babson College, 6-3. RPI drops to 5-3, while the Beavers improve to 2-1.
After falling behind 1-0 following the conclusion of the No. 2 doubles, the Engineers rallied for wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Alex Mednikova and Rani Jones posted an 8-6 win on court number one and Brooke Bauer and Sonya Khudyakov earned an 8-7 (7-2) win two courts over.
Freshman Lorna Flores Gonzalez registered RPI’s lone point in singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win over sophomore Adele Fernandez at No. 2. Nitya Subramanian nearly had a win at No. 4 but lost in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5.
RPI returns to action on March 7 against Haverford College in Orlando, Fla., while Babson is back on the court on March 13 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
