TEMPE, Ariz. — The Cal Poly men’s tennis team dropped its non-conference to Big West rival UCSB, 4-1, at the final day of competition Sunday at the ASU 8-Team Tournament.
In doubles, the Mustangs (7-3) started with a win from their No. 3 pair of sophomore Noah Berry and redshirt sophomore Fernando Fonseca, 6-3. They are now 4-2 together this season.
The Gauchos (7-4) then won at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots to take the doubles point.
In singles, UCSB won at the No. 5 spot to take a 2-0 lead before graduate transfer Hendrik Inno won his match at the No. 6 spot, 6-4, 6-2 to put Cal Poly on the board. Inno is 5-2 so far in singles in his first season with the Mustangs.
However, the Gauchos followed up with wins at the No. 1 and No. 4 spots to clinch the win over the Mustangs.
Cal Poly will begin a three-match homestand starting Saturday, March 5 when the Mustangs host BYU at 12 p.m. at Mustang Tennis Complex.
