HAMMOND, La. – The spring portion of the 2021-22 Southeastern Louisiana University Athletics schedule will be in full swing over the next seven days, as nine different teams will be in action during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
The Southeastern men’s and women’s track and field teams will close out competition at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships this week. The Lions are third and the Lady Lions are sixth heading into Monday’s final day of the meet that starts at 9 a.m.
The SLU men’s golf team will open the spring portion of its schedule this week. The Lions will be in Diamondhead, Mississippi to compete in the Gulf Coast Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday.
Both the Southeastern men’s (17-13, 9-4 Southland) and women’s (14-9, 10-3 Southland) basketball teams head into this week’s regular season finale at Northwestern State a half game out of the Southland Conference lead and needing a win to clinch a top two seed and a bye into the conference tournament semifinals. The 1 p.m. women’s game is followed by the 3 p.m. men’s matchup Saturday in Natchitoches.
The SLU baseball team (3-4) has a busy week ahead that includes four games versus nationally-ranked competition. The Lions open the week with a 6 p.m. contest with in-state foe Tulane on Tuesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond Alumni Field. Southeastern closes its five-game home stand Wednesday, hosting No. 15 Louisiana Tech for a 6 p.m. contest.
Over the weekend, SLU will hit the road for a three-game series at No. 3 Arkansas. The series will open Friday at 3 p.m., continue Saturday at 2 p.m. with Sunday’s series finale set for 1 p.m.
The Lady Lion softball team (10-3) closes out its 11-game road swing with a 4 p.m. contest Wednesday at Louisiana Tech. Southeastern will then return home to host Lion Classic II at North Oak Park.
SLU faces Buffalo at 3 p.m. and Marist at 5 p.m. Friday. Saturday’s action sees the Lady Lions meet Buffalo at 1 p.m. and Marist at 3 p.m. Gardner-Webb and Southeastern will close the tournament with an 11 a.m. Sunday matchup.
The Southeastern tennis team (1-7) opens the week on the road with a 3:30 p.m. match at Embry-Riddle Tuesday. SLU closes out its preconference schedule at home this weekend, hosting Jackson State (Saturday, 10 a.m.) and LSU Alexandria (Sunday, 11 a.m.) at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
The Beach Lions will open their home schedule this week, welcoming Texas A&M-Kingsville at 4 p.m. Thursday at the SLU Beach Volleyball Complex in North Oak Park. Southeastern will compete in the ULM Bayou Bash Saturday, facing Houston Baptist at 9 a.m. and Nicholls at 1 p.m.
Former SLU quarterback Cole Kelley will participate in the NFL Scouting Combine this week in Indianapolis. The quarterbacks will be featured in on-field workouts on Thursday at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts.

All of this week’s home softball and baseball games will be televised on ESPN+. The baseball series at Arkansas will air on SEC Network+. Saturday’s basketball doubleheader, as well as the baseball games schedule for Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday can be heard at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive.

The 2022 season of Inside Southeastern Baseball with Matt Riser continues Monday at 12 p.m. from the patio of Pour House Pizza and Beer Garden. Riser will join co-host Allen Waddell at lunchtime every Monday during the season for the 60-minute show, talking the latest in Southeastern baseball. Each week, select Lion players will also join the duo. Pour House is located at 505 W. Thomas St. in Hammond. The show will initially be heard online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive.
The latest episode of Inside Southeastern Basketball with David Kiefer is set for Monday at 7 p.m. The show will feature Kiefer and host Allen Waddell discussing Lion hoops every Monday through March 14 at Rainbow Daiquiris (14384 West Thomas Street). The show will air on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM, as well as online at www.kajun107.net.

The Mardi Gras baseball game versus Tulane will feature Laissez Le Bon Temps Rouler in Hammond, America. The first 200 students will receive free king cake and Lion Baseball Mardi Gras beads. Fans at Tuesday’s game versus the Green Wave will be able to enjoy fireworks during the seventh-inning stretch and following the game.
