The Bulldogs
Trent Bryde, Blake Croyder, Mathis Debru, Erik Grevelius, Philip Henning, Britton Johnston, Tristan McCormick, Thomas Paulsell, Miguel Perez Peña, Hamish Stewart and Ethan Quinn make up the roster for the Georgia Bulldogs’ for the 2021-22 season.
Several Georgia men’s tennis players were featured in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Ranking that was released Wednesday, February 23.
Georgia now takes the No.15 spot for the team rankings. Five Bulldogs appear in the singles rankings and four pairs in the doubles rankings. Graduate transfer Stewart leads the pack at No.22. 2020 ITA All-American senior Philip Henning rings in at No.44, graduate transfer Tristan McCormick is ranked No.47, senior Blake Croyder earns a career-high ranking of No.76, and Four-time ITA All-American and senior Trent Bryde rounds out the pack at No.79.
For doubles, Bryde and Henning are ranked No.41, Croyder and junior Erik Grevelius appear in their first rankings of the season at No.42, Henning and Stewart take the No.59 spot and McCormick and Stewart are No.60.
The Field.
The Georgia men’s tennis program will face No.12-ranked The University of Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns boast an impressive tennis resumé with one National Championship (2019), 38 NCAA Tournament appearances, nine-time Big 12 Regular Season Champions, five-time Big-12 Tournament Champions, 18-time SWV Regular Season Champions and have 11 total Conference Tournament Titles. Georgia holds a 16-6 all-time series record against Texas. The last time the two teams faced off in the Dual Season was in 2019 and the last time Georgia won against Texas was 2015.
Texas has four singles players and three doubles pairs featured in the latest ITA rankings. For singles, freshman Pierre-Yves Bailly is ranked No. 17, sophomore Micah Braswell is at the No. 72 spot, sophomore Siem Woldeab re-entered at No. 104 and senior Richard Ciamarra was No. 114.
In doubles, Ciamarra and sophomore Cleeve Harper checked in at No. 38, Woldeab and sophomore Elliot Spizzirri rang in at No. 46, and Ciamarra and Spizzirri took the No. 54-ranking.
Next Up
The Georgia men’s tennis program will begin their conference schedule by traveling to Nashville, TN. to face the No.64-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores on Friday, March 4 at 3 p.m. ET. Georgia owns a 57-5 all-time series record against Vanderbilt. The two programs last went toe-to-toe on March 28, 2021, in Athens, Ga. where the Bulldogs came out on top with a 4-1 victory.
