BOZEMAN, Montana – Trey Morris knows where his Montana State men’s tennis team is in its schedule, and he knows what’s next. And that only adds importance to this weekend’s matches against Boise State and Pacific in Boise.
“These are important matches,” Morris said of his 65th-ranked Bobcats, “but we look forward to the opportunity to play anyone. We have four non-conference matches before we jump into conference play, and it’s a priority to make sure all of our guys are ready to go for that while still playing at a very high level and trying to get (positive) results.”
The Bobcats battle Boise State on Friday at 12 noon at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center in Boise. The Broncos enter weekend play with a 5-5 record that includes a 4-3 win over regional power BYU and a 4-2 loss to 22nd-ranked Utah in their most recent outings two weeks ago. On Sunday the Bobcats face Pacific (California) in Boise. The Tigers stand 2-4, but hold wins over UC Davis and Sacramento State in their last two outings.
The Bobcats beat North Dakota and Omaha in Grand Forks last weekend, and Morris said he saw a continuation of his team’s recent focus and execution. “We’re doing the little things right,” he said. “We talked about doing things the way we do them and controlling the controllables. When we do that the level of our play as a group continues to rise.”
The Cats enter weekend action with a 10-3 mark, including a 3-3 mark in true road matches and 2-0 in neutral site contests. Daan Van Dijk is 9-2 on the season, 8-2 at the Nol 2 ladder spot and 1-0 at No. 1, while Nejc Sitar is 8-1 overall, 6-1 at No. 5.
