BLUFFTON, S.C. — The University of Cincinnati men’s golf team picked up a stroke-play victory over No. 28 Michigan State in the Dual at Berkeley Hall.
The one-round event, which the Bearcats won 288-299 by virtue of the five-player, count-four-score procedure, was a precursor to Monday’s Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton. It provided a major boost to the team as it returns to outdoor play and its second full tourney of the spring.
“It was great to get out and compete today against a very good Michigan State team,” head coach Doug Martin said. “We did a better job today at times with our execution. We’re still trying to get comfortable on fast Bermuda Greens. This is always tough for us starting the spring semester. Hopefully this gives us some positive momentum going into Michigan State’s event that starts Monday.”
Gingerich’s 67, the best of any round by five strokes, matched a career-low.
