DURHAM – No. 40 Duke men’s tennis has two tough road tests this weekend when it travels to No. 17 Florida State and No. 24 Miami on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
Friday’s matchup with the Seminoles is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center, while Sunday’s meeting with the Hurricanes is set for 12 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

Junior Garrett Johns sits with a 6-3 record in dual action on the Blue Devils’ top court, including a 3-2 mark over ranked opponents. Rookie Connor Krug has bounced around Duke’s top four courts this season and has compiled a dual record of 7-4. Sophomore Andrew Dale holds the best dual record on the team with a mark of 8-1, including a 7-0 record on court five. The sophomore doubles pair of Faris Khan and Niroop Vallabhaneni lead the team with five dual victories on the year. Johns and Sean Sculley follow closely with three.
HISTORY WITH FLORIDA STATE
Friday’s contest will be the 48th all-time meeting between the two schools. Duke currently holds the 31-16 edge on the series and won the teams last meeting a year ago, 4-2, in Durham. Prior to that, the Seminoles had strung together victories in five of the last six meetings.
SCOUTING THE SEMINOLES
Nationally ranked Florida State sits with an impressive 10-3 overall record on the year and a 1-1 mark in conference play. The Seminoles dropped their last outing to No. 7 Wake Forest 7-0 but had recorded four consecutive wins before that match. Two of those victories were over nationally ranked foes in No. 18 Mississippi State and No. 20 N.C. State. Junior Loris Pourroy is Florida State’s lone player listed in the latest ITA rankings, as he sits at No. 82 in singles action. He currently holds an 8-2 record in dual singles play, including a 3-1 record over ranked opponents. He joins teammate Sebastian Arcila in doubles and the duo is 6-3 in dual doubles action.
HISTORY WITH MIAMI
Duke currently leads the all-time series with Miami by a slim 25-24 edge. The Blue Devils recorded a thrilling 4-2 win a season ago, but prior to that, the Hurricanes had won two straight in the series. Duke has claimed 10 wins over its last 12 meetings with Miami though.
SCOUTING THE HURRICANES
Miami sits with a 12-2 overall record, including a 1-1 mark in ACC play. The Hurricanes bring a three-match winning streak into the weekend after having defeated No. 20 N.C. State, No. 26 Memphis, and Army. Graduate student Dan Martin is Miami’s lone player listed in the most recent ITA rankings as he comes in at No. 99 in singles action. Franco Aubone and Benjamin Hannestad also find themselves ranked as the pair is the No. 23 best doubles duo in the country.
