Will Victory Lane keep seeing newcomers all season?
Maybe not actual first-timers, but probably some guys who haven’t won in a while, as well as some who haven’t won often.
It seems like Tyler Reddick is rattling the gate, with Ross Chastain right there with him looking for a first Cup win. But Austin Dillon and Chris Buescher are among those looking to get back there.
Wait, just uncovered a little item in the research file … it seems there’s a guy named Denny Hamlin who used to be a big deal around here. Maybe he’ll join the Strangers to Victory Lane parade. Or maybe not.

When do we start worrying about Denny?
I’d give it a few more weeks.
Not to say I told you so, but it was at least a suggestion back before the season started: When there’s a change in equipment — be it new rules or a whole new car, such as this year — some organizations “find it” faster than others.
Except for Kyle Busch, the Gibbs Racing team has been just off the mark (Martin Truex Jr.) or fully out to lunch (Denny, Christopher Bell). Hamlin had that gear-shift issue at Vegas, so this isn’t all the fault of engineers and fabricators.
Hamlin is a future Hall of Famer and his career has survived plenty of changes, so let’s assume he works this out. But let’s do a wellness check in a month to make sure.
