ALPENA — The Alpena High girls soccer program will have a new coach in charge this spring after Alpena Public Schools on Tuesday announced the hiring of Gregg Supiran.
Supiran, a longtime assistant coach for both Alpena’s boys and girls soccer programs, succeeds Tim Storch, who took over as varsity coach in 2012.
“I am excited to start this new position as the varsity coach. I have coached soccer and taught physical education in Alpena for 20 years. I enjoy teaching the sport and encouraging students/athletes to see and strive for their full potential through hard work, dedication, and doing the “little things” correctly,” Supiran said in a press release. “I am passionate about molding and mentoring young athletes to learn lifetime skills that can be learned through athletics.”
Supiran, a Dansville High School alum, has been coaching on and off at Alpena for the last 21 years. He is a former Spring Arbor University soccer player and has his E and D national License USFF in soccer coaching education.
“Coach Supiran is a great addition to our program. His experience and knowledge of the game will be a huge asset to our program,” Alpena athletic director Jon Studley said. “We are very excited to have him lead our Wildcat soccer program.”
The Wildcats went 3-17-1 last season after the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
