The Montana State women’s golf team continues the spring season with its second tournament event on Saturday when the Bobcats participate in the 2022 Red Rocks Invitational. The 54-hole event, hosted by Northern Arizona University, is set to tee off at Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona, Ariz.
The tournament will feature a total of 19 teams participating. MSU will be up against host and Big Sky rival Northern Arizona University, along with Big Sky foes University of Montana, Weber State University, University of Northern Colorado, Southern Utah University, and Portland State University.
“So we will have all six playing Oak Creek Country Club for the first time. It’s a great layout, with some good golf holes,” Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. “Our biggest focus will be to hit good smart golf shots and be committed 100% on each one.”
All six players will travel to Sedona, with Kameryn Basye, Jordan Briggs, Cora Rosanova, Hannah Rosanova, and Sofia Rodriguez Todd in the starting lineup. Lucita Prieto Romano will be playing individually.
The Bobcats are coming off the Grand Canyon Invitational which was the first tournament play of the spring 2022 season. Freshman Jordan Briggs led the Bobcats as she shot in the 70’s all three rounds, finishing 46th overall with a 228. Kameryn Basye placed 55th with a 229, Cora Rosanova (240) finished tied for 85th, Hannah Rosanova (242) ended in 89th, and Lucia Preito Romano (245) finished 91st overall. The Bobcats finished with a combined 935 strokes (313-312-310) through the tournament. Sofia Rodriguez Todd will be playing in her second event of the spring 2022 season.
“We need to recognize we still haven’t been outside to practice so taking each shot one at a time will be important for our mental game to stay in it for 36 holes,” Brittany Basye said. “Being able to respond again with good shots for the final round on Sunday. We also have to trust our abilities and not fight against them!”
Saturday invitational play begins at 8 a.m. The final day of action is expected to start at 7 a.m. on Sunday. Results for the invitational will be available on Golfstat.com with links found on the team’s schedule page on msubobcats.com.
