Disc golf is popular right now and county commissioners Tuesday will discuss building a course in Beverly Hills for enthusiasts of the sport.
The county has two existing courses: one in Floral City and Crystal River.
This proposed course would meet the needs of an underserved population in the area, according to Community Services Director Mariselle Rodriguez.
Rodriguez said in the agenda item it would be available to host tournaments and weekly or monthly events.
The course would be run by disc golf pro Mike Barnette, owner/operator of Sun King Disc. He will ask the board to partner with his firm and volunteers to build a new 18-hole disc golf course at Central Ridge District Park.
Retired boat captain Michael Tracy is donating the 18 golf baskets valued at $7,200.00. Citrus County Parks and Recreation staff and volunteers would work together to provide labor and equipment to clear the course. The County would also supply the materials to build the tee pads and signage.
The county commission meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Citrus County Courthouse, 110 N. Apopka Ave., Inverness. Commissioners will hold a workshop at 8:30 a.m. at the same location to discuss infrastructure and growth.
Also on the agenda, commissioners will:
– Get the Citrus County Detention Facility’s latest staffing report. The board is requiring monthly reports from CoreCivic after hearing concerns on whether the county’s privately run jail and prison is being adequately staffed. This will be the first such report.
– Discuss the search for a new county administrator and what they want to see in the requests for proposals from applicants.
– Discuss development of the 2022-23 budget.
