LEXINGTON — Four Lexington soccer players — Zoe Borowicz, Claire Hammer, Carliann Hughes and Audrey Wendling are headed to Denmark to represent the United States in the 2022 Dana Cup this summer.
To be held in Hjorring, Denmark, the girls are raising money through different fundraising activities as well as tax-deductible business donations to help offset tournament and travel expenses, according to Josh Wendling, Audrey’s father.
The team consists of girls from Lexington and surrounding areas as well as Tennessee and Kentucky. They will be playing under the name All American FC.
The Dana Cup is one of the top international youth soccer tournaments and will take place July 25-30. This is Denmark’s largest sporting event of the year, Josh Wendling said.
The tournament starts with an opening ceremony that takes place at the Nord Energi Arena where there will be over 1,100 teams representing 45 nations. The girls will play in two separate qualifying rounds in hopes of making it to the championship.
