Teatime Update (Day One)
With Harry Friend having retired at lunch, Kiran Carlson joined Sam Northeast for the afternoon session, with the latter continuing to impress, late-cutting Lewis for four before on-driving the left-arm spinner for six. Chris Cooke also struck some crisp boundaries during a breezy innings of 22, before being caught at mid-off by Colin Ingram as he tried to loft Lewis into the River Stand.
Having swept Lewis for four, Northeast reached his half-century from 95 balls before also retiring, and allowing Dan Douthwaite to unfurl some typically lusty blows in the period before tea as Glamorgan B reached 216-4 from 62 overs with the all-rounder unbeaten on 41.
Lunchtime Report (Day One)
Following their victory against Somerset at Taunton, Glamorgan continued their pre-season programme this morning with an intra-squad contest at Sophia Gardens, between a Glamorgan A team led by Club captain David Lloyd and a Glamorgan B side led by vice-captain Kiran Carlson. Also appearing in this two-day contest were several members of the Glamorgan Academy, including Ben Morris, Callum Nicholls, Harry Friend and Morgan Bevans, plus Rhodri Lewis, the left-arm spinner who plays for Berkshire.
Carlson’s team won the toss and batted first and at lunch are 100-2, with James Harris, batting at number three, playing some fluent drives to complete a 55-ball fifty which contained a dozen elegant and crisply-struck boundaries. On 57 he was bowled by Lloyd in the Club captain’s opening over, with opening batter Friend batting through the session before retiring 25 not out at the interval.
