The Canadiens announced shortly before Saturday night’s game at the Bell Centre against the Toronto Maple Leafs that assistant coach Luke Richardson has been placed on the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol list and will follow the guidelines set by the league.
Fellow assistant coach Alex Burrows took Richardson’s spot handling the defence behind the bench for the game against the Leafs.
Saturday was also Richardson’s 53rd birthday.
Richardson is the first member of the Canadiens to go on the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol list since defenceman Corey Schueneman on Feb. 19.
