Former world No. 4 Caroline Garcia has announced she is taking a break from tennis to focus on recovering from a foot injury. Garcia, now ranked at No. 67 in the world, revealed she has been dealing with a foot injury since February and now she wants to address it before returning to action.
Garcia last played in Miami, where she was forced to retire mid-match during her opener at the tournament. After losing the first set to Anna Bondar 7-5, Garcia retired the match. “Hello! A little update, Since February I have been suffering from a foot injury.
With my team, we decided to take a few weeks to do the care and follow an adapted protocol to allow me to return to 100 % on the court. See you soon! Caro,” Garcia wrote on Twitter.
Not a great Sunshine Double for Garcia
Garcia also played in Indian Wells, where she defeated Yelena Yastremska in the first round.
After beating Yastremska, Garcia suffered a three-set loss in the second round as Emma Raducanu defeated the former world No. 4 6-1 3-6 6-1. Just before Raducanu and Garcia entered the court for the match, Andy Murray won his 700th match on the ATP Tour.
After losing the second set to Garcia, Raducanu remembered how Murray would give his best and that gave her strength to impose over the former world No. 1. “It’s incredible. I think Andy is such a class player. The way he can put the ball in places that you just don’t want.
I think that’s a real great skill to have. I definitely looked up to him today especially because I was following him. I knew he came through some tricky moments. I was thinking the same when I dropped the second set. I was like, You can do the same, just keep pushing. I think it was great to follow him in the order of play today,” Raducanu said after beating Garcia.
