Fat Guy Corner
The Madness of March finally sees a finish line as we have only three games left.
The Final Four starts Saturday at 6:09 p.m. on the TBS channel. The Villanova Wildcats — the two seed — will take on No. 1 seed Kansas. The eight seed North Carolina will then play No. 2 seed Duke with the tip at around 8:49 p.m. also on TBS.
How were the Fat Guy’s predictions from last week? The word “pathetic” comes to mind. I had zero teams right as I went 0-4 in my Final Four prognostications. However, I also stated last week that I would not be shocked if I got them all wrong based on how upsets were happening in all the brackets. I mean, we have one No. 1 seed left! Who would have predicted that? Let’s venture into this weekend and see if we can get pick some winners on Saturday and Monday’s National Champion to cut down the nets.
The West bracket I had Texas Tech winning, but the Duke Blue Devils derailed that pick. The Gonzaga Bulldogs — the one seed — was upset by Arkansas in a shocker. The Duke Blue Devils then disposed of Arkansas handily. The Duke era of coach K’s final season is two games away from a fairy tale ending. Can Duke send coach K riding off into the sunset with a National Championship? The answer is “yes,” if they can beat East Bracket winner hated rival North Carolina.
The Tar Heels defeated UCLA and then next took out the darling team St. Peter’s. How about St. Peter’s defeating Purdue? The Purdue Boilermakers should be embarrassed losing to St. Peter’s. I cannot sugarcoat that loss. It was a total Purdue embarrassment. Who wins the ACC rival game — Duke or North Carolina? I like the Duke Blue Devils to send coach K to the NCAA Finals.
The Midwest bracket saw No. 1 seed Kansas advance to the Final Four. The Jayhawks routed Miami Florida to advance. The South bracket saw Villanova — the two seed — win two ugly basketball games against Michigan and Houston. The two games set offensive basketball back to the peach basket era. I’ve never seen so many bricks tossed up by Michigan, Houston and Villanova. The difference was Villanova tossed up less bricks to advance. I think the Villanova offense will be the reason they lose to Kansas on Saturday night. The Fat Guy likes Kansas to advance in a low-scoring basketball game. Who grabs the scissors on Monday night to cut the twine on the hoop? I like the fairy tale ending and the Duke Blue Devils! I say, coach K enjoy retirement and a National Championship.
I just got back from a nice Florida vacation the other day. The Fat Guy decided to go watch the Tigers and Phillies play a pre-season baseball game. I picked a great game to watch as the Tigers played what I thought will be their Opening Day lineup. The lineup looks pretty decent to me, actually. The new shortstop Javier Baez hit a nice ball in the gap to drive in some runs. I thought Miggy looked slow with his bat, to be honest, so I am not expecting much from him in 2022. I think Riley Greene in the outfield will be fine too. I will give my thoughts more on the Tigers next week.
The NFL news has been hot and heavy with players movement. The Packers took a hit as Aaron Rodgers lost his receiver when Davante Adams left Green Bay for Vegas. Hey, Rodgers got the contract he wanted the selfish guy he is. What about Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins in a true blockbuster deal. I love what the Dolphins did with that move. The Cleveland Browns signing Deshaun Watson to a huge contract and fully guaranteed money! The Browns, I think, made a huge mistake with it being fully guaranteed money. The Lions on HBO Hard Knocks this season? I guess the rest of the football world can now see how dysfunctional the Lions organization really is. I can’t wait to watch it, actually.
