Djokovic, 34, is set to battle for his third Monte Carlo title.
Djokovic ended runner-up in Monte Carlo in 2009 and 2019, but won titles at the tournament in 2013 and 2015.
Djokovic allowed to play Monte Carlo, Roland Garros
Last month, France lifted its vaccine mandate, paving a way for Djokovic to play the Monte Carlo Masters and French Open.
After Djokovic was denied entry into the United States for Indian Wells and Miami, he kicked off his preparations for the clay season in Belgrade. Recently, Djordje Djokovic revealed his brother’s plans for the upcoming period.
“Novak is here, training in Belgrade and preparing for Monte Carlo. He went through a terrible period, but he endured till the end and showed and proved why he is what he is. He was in Dubai and unfortunately lost the quarterfinals there.
He lacks the continuity of matches and tournaments, to be on the field. I hope that he will continue with great games, and Belgrade and Monte Carlo are tournaments where he is preparing for Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Until the last moment, he did not know if he would be able to play, but fortunately, he will appear in Paris, Rome, London and Madrid.
The ATP does not have much say in this, since rules vary from country to country,” Djordje Djokovic said on K1’s “Kec na jedanaest” show. The Monte Carlo Masters will be Djokovic’s second tournament of the season. Rafael Nadal won’t play next week and it remains to be seen if Djokovic can win his third Monte Carlo title.
