After being held to a draw in February, Ebonie Jones is keen to get back in the win column quickly. She spoke to Andrew Fairley
When and why you started boxing:
I started boxing when I was 12. I originally did kickboxing when I was 10 and switched to boxing as I used to like punching a lot more than kicking.
Who is your favourite all-time fighter and why?
I love Mike Tyson, I used to watch him a lot when I was a little girl and I was just amazed by his style and power.
What is the best fight you have seen, either live or on television?
A recent fight which was one of the best I’ve seen was Leigh Wood versus Michael Conlan.
What is your best achievement in boxing so far?
I’d say winning the Under-22 European championships when I was on Team GB.
Who is the toughest opponent you’ve faced and why?
There have been a lot but it definitely would have been an opponent from an Eastern European country.
What are your strengths and weaknesses as a boxer?
I’d say my strength is my heart and will to win, and weakness I am very hard on myself even when I win.
What is your best piece of advice for boxing training?
I’d say you have to do your roadwork. Some people may find it not as important but for me I think it’s crucial.
What is your favourite meal and restaurant?
My favourite meal is a roast dinner! It’s gotta be home-cooked by Mum or Nan though!
Who are your best friends in boxing?
Demie Jade. We went away together boxing for England. Also a boxer called Scarlett who used to go to Guildford City boxing club.
Which other sportsman would you like to be?
I wouldn’t like to be anyone else.
What is the last film or television show you saw?
Wild Rose, a film about a country singer from Scotland. I love it!
Which actor would play you in a film of your life?
Chloe Grace Moretz because my nan says I look like her a bit and she’s in Kickass!
Have you ever been starstruck? If so, who was the star?
No, but I would if I ever got to meet Mike Tyson.
When was the last time you cried, and why?
I can’t remember.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Probably always be true to yourself and not care what other people think.
What is the worst rumour you have heard about yourself?
People will always have a lot to say but it goes through one ear and out the other.

I love country music, it’s what I run to and train to. I listen to it every day.
