Des Moines, IA – The Grand View Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of the new Men’s Soccer Head Coach David Groves.
“I am very excited to welcome David as the next Head Coach of the Men’s Soccer program at Grand View,” said Athletics Director Troy Plummer, “He has a very successful track record as an NAIA head coach and will transition easily into his role at Grand View. I’m confident he is the right fit to capitalize on the great history of success in our Men’s Soccer program and lead us in the future.”
Groves comes from Lyon College where he coached the Scots since 2018 amassing a 48-23-4 overall record in the American Midwest Conference. He has led his team to national tournament appearances in two of the four years and the AMC tournament championship game in three of four years, winning the tournament in 2021 for the first time in program history. Groves also led his team to the highest ranking in program history, No. 19, while collecting AMC Coach of the Year honors at the conclusion of the season.
“I am excited and grateful to have the opportunity to lead Grand View’s men’s soccer program,” said Groves, “Grand View Athletics is a leader in the NAIA and well respected amongst administrators and colleagues throughout the country.”
During his tenure at Lyon, Groves coached five student-athletes to All-American honors. Prior to Groves tenure, the Scots had one All-American.
Groves also served on the NAIA Men’s Soccer Raters Committee and as a Staff Council President at Lyon College.
“The longevity of coaches is truly unmatched at any level. This program, built by Coach Reid, has already experienced so much success. I look forward to settling in the Des Moines area and leading the continued success of the program.”
