Seiya Suzuki had his first three-hit game in his MLB rookie season on Saturday, going 3-for-4 with an RBI as the Chicago Cubs trounced the Pittsburgh Pirates 21-0.
Suzuki singled and scored his team’s opening run in the first inning at Wrigley Field. His one-out single drove in the first of eight Cubs runs in the second inning off Zach Thompson (0-2). Suzuki stole his first base in MLB and scored in the inning, Thompson’s last.

The former Hiroshima Carp slugger also doubled and scored in the five-run fifth but got a break and a seat on the bench before batting again in the inning with the Cubs leading 16-0.
“We had a good game today. I was trying to be aggressive with my first stolen base and it was a positive that I made it with my first attempt,” said Suzuki, who is batting .372.
Yoshitomo Tsutsugo batted cleanup for the Pirates but went 0-for-3, dropping his average to .182.
Yu Darvish threw six innings of one-hit ball but did not get a decision in the San Diego Padres’ 3-2, 10-inning walk-off win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Darvish struck out seven and walked three in his 90-pitch effort and left with San Diego leading 2-0.
