ONONDAGA COUNTY – Once the sun broke out late in the week, the Baldwinsville girls golf team was glad to return to the course and try to maintain its place atop the SCAC Metro division standings.
The Bees improved to 3-0 during last Thursday’s match against Cicero-North Syracuse Green at Timber Banks, rolling to a 224-259 victory in a rematch of their April 22 match at Northern Pines.
Playing for the first time on its home course this season, B’ville saw Alexandra Cavino lead all individuals, shooting a 51 for nine holes.
Gloria Metallo, with a 54, and Anna Falcone, with a 57, each topped the 60 from C-NS Green’s Lindsey Kubala, while Reagan Doan finished with a 62.
A day later, at Hickory Hills, B’ville went up against Liverpool, a side that won the regular-season league title a year ago but had struggled since the graduation of its two best players, Nataly and Mia Avotins.
But the Warriors were tough here, getting all four of its top players to shoot 50 or lower, led by a 45 from Emma Fenwick and a 47 from Maddie Turck.
Still, the Bees won 186-190, helped by a top-two sweep from Cavino, who shot 41, and Metallo, who had a 43. Julia Quin managed a 50 and Eva Pawelek added a 52.
This turns Friday’s match with Fayetteville-Manlius Green into a first-place showdown that follows matches earlier in the week against C-NS Blue and F-M White.
