It was the fight prospect that sent social media into a frenzy and tags wagging: Jake Paul versus Sonny Bill Williams.
Paul mentioned Sonny Williams’ name and the dual-international bought into it, but the only issue is it is all but certainly not go ahead, according to Paul Gallen.
For years Williams has been ducking and dodging Gallen, but the World Cup-winning All Black is unlikely to take to the ring for one simple reason.
Williams is a heavyweight and Paul doesn’t come close to matching his reach, weight nor height.

Even Williams admitted that in a recent interview, saying he would have to cut down drastically while Paul, who was 86kg in his most recent fight, would have to stick solid at his normal weight in the mid-90s.
“It would probably be a catchweight fight, I’d probably have to drop under 100kg. I know he sits at around 95-96kg, so that could work,” Williams told The Sun Herald.
“He’s a powerful athlete and I’m exactly the same, except a bigger version, a taller version, a longer-limbed version. I’m just as good on my feet, if not better than he is.”
Gallen, however, is more sceptical.
“Yeah it fascinates me, but I’m realistic and honest in my appraisal of things and I just don’t think it’ll happen,” the State of Origin-winning captain told foxsports.com.au.
“And if does happen, I’m hoping I’m proved wrong and good luck to Sonny.
“But Jake Paul’s a guy who weighs between 85-90 kilos, Sonny weights 109kg when he’s fit and ready to fight, so he’s probably walking around 113-114-115 kilos. We saw on Instagram the other day where Eddie Hearn was talking about Sonny the other day, ‘oh he’s not a big heavyweight, he’ll probably get down to 190 pounds, maybe 200 pounds.’
“That’s 86-90kilos, Sonny would have to lose more than 20 kilos. Come on, mate, seriously.
“Jake Paul’s fought two blokes, he’s had three fights, fought two blokes with their careers at welterweight and the other bloke he’s talking about fighting Tommy Fury, who fights at light-heavyweight, which is 79 kilos. I just think people have to be realistic.
“If it happens, good luck to Sonny. I actually hope it happens. I’ve got no animosity towards Sonny, I’ve got no animosity to the situation, good on him, I hope it happens, but I just don’t think Jake Paul’s going to fight a heavyweight who is undefeated and had nine-ten fights.”
Should a Paul-SBW fight be too difficult for everyone, Gallen says he would warmly accept the challenge.
The 40-year-old dropped to 97kgs for his 10-round epic against Justis Huni last June and says he could hit the scales around 90kgs comfortably.
But Gallen, who is toying with retirement at year’s end and is fighting for the Australian and Australasian belts next week in Newcastle against Kris Terzievski, doesn’t believe Paul would want to face someone of his calibre.
“I’m retiring this year, but of course I’d look at it, of course I’d do it if it was to happen this year,” he said.
He added: “But it’s not a discussion I’ve even contemplated or worried about. The biggest thing on my mind is Kris Terzievski, I’ve got to get through that and get the win. I think if I was to win, I don’t think Jake Paul would fight me anyway.
“He said the other day he’d only fight people with under 10 fights, so it wouldn’t happen anyway.”
