STATE CENTER — Colfax-Mingo’s Austin Lane and Baxter’s Ben Richardson each scored one goal and Baxter’s Tanner Scroggins collected one assist during Central Iowa United’s boys soccer team’s 4-2 win over Ballard on Thursday.
CIU led 3-0 at halftime and tacked on another goal in the second to win its first match of the season.
Scroggins also finished with 18 saves in his 80 minutes in goal.
Central Iowa United took 13 shots and seven shots on goal. Wade Weave scored two goals, Ephram Muntz dished out two assists and Gannon Short added one assist as CIU is now 1-7. Ballard dropped to 1-9.
PCM soccer loses pair of conference matches
The Mustangs opened up their week with a 2-0 home loss to Greene County on Monday. They followed that up with an 8-0 road loss to Perry on Thursday.
The Rams improved to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in league play. Gesser Gutierres and Brenner Gallagher scored one goal each and Gabe Ebersole stopped all five PCM shots.
Perry improved to 8-3 and 1-1. PCM is now 4-6 and 0-4.
PCM’s statistics for both matches were unavailable at press time.
GIRLS
Ballard 9, Central Iowa United 1
HUXLEY — Lilie Vansice scored CIU’s lone goal, but CIU couldn’t take more advantage of its 18 shots and 10 shots on goal.
Cassidy Smith had 10 saves in her 40 minutes in goal and Gabby Eirikson stopped three shots.
