Canelo Alvarez is already one of the greatest boxers to ever live, but he is looking to create no doubt that he is the best boxer in the world.
Alvarez is set to battle Dmitry Bivol on May 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for Bivol’s WBA light heavyweight belt. Bivol first became a belt-holder when he was named the interim WBA light heavyweight title in 2016 after beating Felix Valera. He has since defended the title five times and has been promoted to super champion.
However, Bivol has yet to face a fight of Alvarez’s caliber. Canelo has posted a career record of 57-1-2 with his only outright loss coming against Floyd Mayweather in 2013. Since then, Canelo has a record of 15-0-1.
Canelo already owns titles in four divisions and unified the super middleweight division in just 11 months. He last fought in November when he beat Caleb Plant. Meanwhile, Bivol’s last fight came in December against Umar Salamov.
