Clarion-Goldfield/Dows senior Jacob Moore battled through windy conditions to claim top honors here Monday at the boys North Central Conference golf tournament.
Moore was the lone player to break 80 in the field, carding a 78 at the Fort Dodge Country Club for meet medalist. Clear Lake, who also claimed the girls team title, was crowned champions with a 337.
Clarion-Goldfield/Dows and Humboldt were each one shot back with team totals of 338, with Webster City placing fourth with a 340 and Hampton-Dumont/CAL fifth with a 341.
Iowa Falls-Alden, St. Edmond and Algona rounded out the standings.
“That might be the closest NCC finish ever,” SEHS head coach Matt Dillon said. “It was a great tournament on a really tough day for golf. Credit to all of the kids for going out there and competing.”
Moore finished two shots ahead of Humboldt’s Jayden Gargano, who carded an 80. Cale Kirstein and Eli Anderson from Clear Lake — along with Gargano’s teammate, Carson Sleiter — all shot 81s.
Leading the way for St. Edmond was Caleb Schaeffer, who had an 87 to tie for 15th overall.
“It was a good round for Caleb,” Dillon said. “Hopefully, this can help get him prepared for the postseason.”
Webster City’s quartet of Beau Klaver, Garrett Arnold, Drew Schwering and Devon Stoakes all shot 85s to tie for eighth.
St. Edmond will host a Class 1A sectional meet on Wednesday at Lakeside Golf Course. Qualifiers from sectionals advance to districts, which take place Monday, May 16 in Livermore at Spring Valley Golf Course.
