Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem has safely landed in Switzerland and his plan for the next couple of days is to put in the hard work on the practice court. Thiem, who returned from a lengthy absence in late March at the Marbella Challenger, has had a rough comeback so far.
Thiem has played five matches since returning from a 10-month absence and he is 0-5. Thiem will be aiming to win his first match of the year in Geneva, where he is set to make his debut appearance. Before Thiem plays his first round match, he plans to put in the hard work on the practice court.
Thiem has been drawn to meet a qualifier in the Geneva first round. “After a few days of recharging at home and after some intense practice sessions, I arrived in Switzerland this morning. The next few days will focus on the upcoming practice sessions, my daily growth – privately and most importantly on the tennis court!” Thiem wrote on Twitter.

Thiem ‘frustrated’ after the latest loss
This week in Rome, Thiem took on home favorite Fabio Fognini in the first round. It didn’t end well for Thiem as Fognini claimed a 6-4 7-6 (5) win.
“I’m really frustrated right now, obviously,” Thiem said after losing to Fognini. “Things have improved again since Madrid. That’s good. I looked at the stats after the first set on the big screen. Actually, they are getting better and better.
The first-serve percentage, first-serve wins, second-serve wins actually had better stats in the first set. Just zero out of three break points. I have to play better those close points.” Thiem hasn’t had an easy comeback so far but he remains confident that he can improve and ultimately reach his old level.
Before Thiem played his first match of the year in Marbella, Thiem said he only returned because he feels he can again be a Grand Slam contender.
