ST. PETER — The Worthington boys high school tennis team lost a 7-0 match to St. Peter on Saturday and also completed a match with St. James Area that was cut short on Thursday due to threatening weather.
Two matches were still on the court in the St. James match held at Worthington when skies turned dark. St. James won both of them on Saturday to win the meet 5-2. At No. 4 singles, Zech Ciske beat Worthington’s David Sternke 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (0), and at No. 2 doubles Adan Rodriguez and Devon Olson beat Levi Kuhl and Jacob Ahrenstorff in two sets.
In the St. Peter meet, none of the matches went three sets.
Marty Anderson defeated Worthington’s Alec Langerud 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Fede Zimmerman beat Sternke 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Cooper Dean topped Quentin Burns 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. And Colton Abels prevailed over the Trojans’ Ahrenstorff 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.
At No. 1 doubles, Will Elias and Ben Taylor were 6-2, 6-3 winners over Kuhl and Tyson Henkels. At No. 2, Anders Dixon and Tyson Schmitz beat Matthew Becker and Evan Hansberger 6-3, 6-0. And at No. 3, Quinn Dixon and Ezekiel Ribar beat Lance Gordon and Casey Salinas 6-3, 6-1.
