In addition, she set a career-low single-round tally (66, -5) in the second round and was among four Wolverines in the top 30 and two among the top 20 (Mikaela Schulz, t-17th).

• Lau (73.18) is on pace to set the career scoring record (74.90, Grace Choi).
A Four-Peat (of sorts)
In U-M’s last four team NCAA regional appearances (2016, ’17, ’21, ’22) the Wolverines have advanced to the NCAA Finals — giving the Maize and Blue trips to nationals in four of the last six events. It should be noted U-M had an individual invitee (Ashley Lau) in 2019 as well as the 2020 postseason being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wolverines Haul in the Team Trophies
Michigan has won four team titles, tying for the second-most in a single season. The Wolverines closed the regular season winning three events — the Wolverine Invitational (Sept. 13-14), co-champions at the VyStar Invitational (March 5-6), and the Indiana Invitational (April 9-10). U-M also won the program’s first Big Ten Championship. The Maize and Blue added three runner-up finishes to post seven top-two finishes in 11 events.
Medalists, Medalists Everywhere
In addition to the four team titles, U-M has had five medalists with Ashley Lau winning three of those events — the Tulane Classic (Feb. 13-14), the VyStar Gators Invitational (March 5-6) and the Indiana Invitational (April 9-10). Those wins helped her set the U-M career record (four). Monet Chun won her first collegiate title at the Big Ten Championships (April 22-24), leading U-M to its first Big Ten title with her four-shot victory. Mikaela Schulz added her second career title, tying for medalist honors in the season-opening Wolverine Invitational. The five individual trophies are the most for Michigan in a single season, topping the previous record of three during the 1995-96 season.
Consistency is the Key
Over the last three seasons, Michigan has played in 26 events with two seasons dramatically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, despite the altered schedules, Jan Dowling‘s Wolverines have managed to post 18 top-five finishes, four team titles, the first Big Ten title in program history and eight medalists over the stretch.
Together as a Team
Michigan is averaging 291.06 with 10 sub-par team rounds. That average is on pace to shatter the current program record (295.56, 2015-16). This season, U-M fired a team-low for par 279 (-9) at the Landfall Tradition and a team-low tally with a 276 (-4) at the VyStar Gators Invitational.
Going Low
With her team-best scoring average of 71.70, Ashley Lau is on pace to smash the U-M record of 73.09 set by Elodie Van Dievoet during the 2016-17 season. Lau leads with 13 sub-par rounds, including a career-low 66 (-6) carded in the final round of the VyStar Gators Invitational. Overall, she has nine sub-70 tallies. With those 13 sub-par rounds, Lau set the program record with 26 total in her career.
The Closer
Mikaela Schulz has the propensity to save her best for the last round. Over the last two seasons, she has been instrumental in helping the Wolverines achieve several successes. In 2021, she helped the Wolverines to a runner-up finish at the Big Ten Championships with a closing 71 (-1). She then shot a 72 (+1) at the Wolverine Invitational to not only help U-M to the team title, but she tied for medalist honors. In 2022, her 72 (E) at the Tulane Classic rallied U-M for a runner-up finish, while a 73 (+1) at Big Tens helped the Maize and Blue capture its first ever conference title. Finally, with a 72 (+1), Schulz helped the Wolverines advance to their second straight NCAA Finals after they tied for third. Starting seven of eight events, she is carrying a career-low 74.54 per-round average.
