Maddie Kost of Kent was the champion of the Northern Ohio PGA’s Seven Hills junior tournament in Hartville in the girls 16-to-19 age division.
Kost bested the competition by four strokes, firing a 4-over-par 76. She saved her best for the back nine, using three birdies to keep her score at the top of the leaderboard.
Leading the boys 16-to-19 age division was Jacob Ryan of Akron (4-under-par) and Dylan Dunn of Stow at even par.
Grace Vidovic of Aurora won the girls 11-to-15 age division by one stroke over Julia Gulia of Sagamore Hills.
Mix sisters place in Greatest Golf
Sisters Jennifer and Jessica Mix of Diamond teamed up to finish in fourth place in the U-14 girls division of the scramble event at Reserve Run Golf Course in Poland sponsored by the Greatest Golf Junior Tour.
The next tournament in the series is at Pine Lakes Golf Club on June 7 in Hubbard.
Golf raffle, outings benefit local first responders
Fire departments across Portage County and northeast Ohio often schedule golf outings to raise much-needed funds for department programs and equipment.
Many of the firemen also spend their days away from the department competing in the fire department outings, supporting their fellow firefighters and paramedics.
While golf is our family sport, many of our immediate and extended family are members of departments across northeast Ohio, including our son, Marty Jenior, captain of the Rootstown Fire Department, his two sons, nephews and many of our closest friends.
To that end, our daughter, Katie Jenior, Barrington Golf Club shop manager and instructor, raffled a limited edition First Responder C-130 golf bag manufactured by Sun Mountain to the members at Barrington Golf Club.
All supported the effort allowing 100 dozen golf balls with the firemen flag logo to be purchased and distributed to fire departments in the area.
