BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head women’s soccer coach Lauren Calabrese announced on Wednesday the addition of Taylor Campbell-Phipps as assistant coach. A former NCAA National Champion at Penn State in 2015, Phipps was a multi-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
“I am thrilled to join the Lehigh women’s soccer community,” said Campbell-Phipps. “From the moment I stepped on Lehigh’s campus for the first time, I felt a familial-like atmosphere from everyone I met. It’s evident this community has fostered a culture of warmth, curiosity and excellence. I look forward to bringing a fresh perspective to the coaching staff as a previous player who was in these student-athletes’ position less than five years ago.
“For this reason, I have an acute understanding of the unique challenges female student-athletes face every day in our current society,” she continued. “I look forward to leveraging this understanding for the greater good of this program as I believe it’s important for diverse perspectives to influence decision making from the top down. Coach Calabrese is the ideal leader for this approach and I anticipate this program’s success as an indicator of how carefully she selected her coaching staff to lead this group of intelligent and talented young women.”
Campbell-Phipps comes to Lehigh after working as lead sales representative since 2021.
“I am thrilled to welcome Taylor to our Lehigh women’s soccer community,” said Calabrese. “As a black, queer, female and former student-athlete who has competed at a high level for a nationally reputed program, Taylor offers a compelling perspective and lived experience that will provide a valuable contribution to our program culture. Taylor’s history as a player, coupled with her passion for learning, affinity for innovative thinking, and willingness to engage in thoughtful dialogue, will make her well-suited to recruit, coach and develop student-athletes.”
Campbell-Phipps served as Assistant Director of Annual Leadership Gifts at her alma mater from November of 2019 to August of 2021. As a soccer student-athlete at Penn State, Campbell-Phipps played in nine matches during the Nittany Lions’ national championship 2015 campaign, recording a career-high 36 minutes against Indiana. She went on to be named Academic All-Big Ten as both a sophomore and junior, as Penn State returned to the NCAA Tournament both seasons (advancing to the National Quarterfinals in 2017).
Campbell-Phipps graduated Penn State in 2018 with her bachelor of science in behavioral health.
“I am incredibly excited for our staff and high-performance development team to work with Taylor to continue to build a collaborative community dedicated to competitive achievement and academic excellence,” said Calabrese.
