By Craig Daly: George Kambosos Jr. says he plans on overwhelming Devin Haney with his high volume output on Sunday night because he knows he can’t match him in that department.
Kambosos says Devin’s dad, Bill Haney, commented recently about it would be bad for him if he throws a lot of shots, but he read that to mean that the last thing they want is to have to deal with a lot of shots.
On Thursday, Kambosos (20-0, 10 KOs) seemed a lot more toned down with his personality in interviews and at the final press conference.
It was as if he had dropped the over-the-top act that he’s been using since the start of the promotion, and he showed his real self.
Hopefully, Kambosos can continue to play it low-key because he seemed almost unhinged lately with his crazy behavior during interviews at press conferences.
What was really odd was the way Kambosos continually called Haney a “rat” for him giving him a helping hand before his fight with Teofimo Lopez. He didn’t show gratitude to Haney for his help to make him a millionaire.
“If he wants to move & run, no problem. I’m a pressure fighter and I’m a dangerous counter puncher as well, very precise,” George Kambosos to Fight Hub TV, talking about his match against Haney.
“The shots that I throw, I’m not just a one, one, two kind of guy. I’m a three, four, five, six kind of guy,” Kambosos said.”So whatever he throws, it’ll be high volume there.
“No one knows. There are so many game plans and so many ways I can fight, and so much artillery in my pockets. I’m ready for whatever he brings to the table. I’m sure he’s prepared to counter whatever I bring, but that’s not going to be enough.
“That would be a cool concept in fighting until someone quits, but I’m ready for victory. Every punch I throw is with bad intentions. If he’s going to throw one, one, two, that’s a new problem. I’m going to bring a whole lot of volume.
“I saw his father Bill Haney say, ‘The more high volume George Kambosos throws, the worse it’s going to be for Kambosos.’ To me, that’s a sign of, ‘Please don’t bring volume.’
“They want me to lay back. I believe he going to move and is going to run but when that’s not working for him, he’ll try to come forward as well. I’ve prepared for whatever style. I’ve brought in the right guys.
“This is the same Kambosos as in the Lopez fight. This is the same Kambosos. This is never arrogant. It’s the same person that I’ve always been,” said Kambosos.
