It will be a quick turnaround for Glamorgan following their away match with Gloucestershire at Bristol on Saturday evening as they return to Cardiff on Sunday 19 June to meet the Sussex Sharks in a contest at Sophia Gardens which is scheduled to get underway at 1430. (writes Andrew Hignell)
The Welsh county have won three of their eight T20 matches against the Sharks at Cardiff, with the 2017 match also being washed out after just eight overs were possible. As the list below shows of recent matches between the two teams at Sophia Gardens, the Sharks have been victorious on their last three visits to Glamorgan’s headquarters, including last year’s contest when an opening stand of 144 between Luke Wright and Phil Salt laid the foundation for a 33-run victory before teenage leg-spinner Archie Lenham bagged four wickets.
21 June, 2015 – Sussex won by 10 wickets
7 July, 2016 – Glamorgan won by 48 runs
21 July, 2017 – No Result
8 July, 2018 – Sussex won by 8 wickets
26 Aug, 2019 – Sussex won by 7 wickets
July 2nd, 2021 – Sussex won by 33 runs
Glamorgan’s most recent victory over the Sharks in a T20 game at Cardiff came in 2016 after David Lloyd had struck a typically belligerent 81 before Tim van der Gugten claimed 4/17. This was in stark contrast to the game in 2015 when the Sharks completed a home and away double over the Welsh side, winning by ten wickets at Cardiff and by nine wickets at Hove.
However, the Welsh county were to the fore in 2014 at Cardiff when Chris Cooke made a match-winning contribution by posting a forthright half-century to see Glamorgan to a thrilling last-ball victory as West Indian Darren Sammy swatted the winning runs from the final delivery.
