Stanley Cup winners by team: Who has the most championships in NHL history?

    June 27, 2022No Comments

It’s still the Great White North.

While hockey north of the border has fallen into a championship drought, teams from Canada still account for 43 Stanley Cup wins since 1927, with American teams accounting for 54 Cup victories in that same span. Considering that U.S-based franchises outnumber Canadian ones 23 to 9, that math still bodes well for Canada — even with expansion and all that other stuff playing into it.

MORE: Complete list of all 105 Stanley Cup champions

Unfortunately for Canadian fans waiting to bring Lord Stanley’s Cup back across the border, it’ll be another year without a Canadian team hoisting the trophy. With the Colorado Avalanche winning the Stanley Cup this year, this marks 29 years since the last Canadian squad has won it all.

The NHL champion has been crowned the Stanley Cup victor since 1927. Here’s what you need to know about the all-time winners:

Who has won the most Stanley Cups in NHL history?

The Montreal Canadiens are still pacing the pack with 24 Stanley Cup victories in franchise history. They also hold the record for most Stanley Cup appearances with 35.

Here’s how the current crop of NHL franchises

    Washington Capitals 1 2 2018 2018

NHL teams that have never won a Stanley Cup

As it stands, 12 active NHL franchises have yet to hoist the Cup. These are the teams:

    • Arizona Coyotes
    • Buffalo Sabres
    • Columbus Blue Jackets
    • Florida Panthers
    • Minnesota Wild
    • Nashville Predators
    • Ottawa Senators
    • San Jose Sharks
    • Seattle Kraken
    • Vancouver Canucks
    • Vegas Golden Knights
