WBC Light heavyweight division update: Callum Smith vs Mathieu Bauderlique
The World Boxing Council have provided a status update on their light-heavyweight division today when they confirmed that the purse bid ceremony for the Light Heavyweight Elimination Match between #1 Callum Smith and #2 Mathieu Bauderlique will take place on Friday, July 1st.
Smith moved up from super-middleweight after his sole career defeat to Canelo in December 2020. His 175lbs debut saw a devastating knockout over Dominican’s Lenin Castillo (22-4-1, 17KO) just a minute into the second round of their September 2021 showdown on the undercard of Joshua-Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspurs stadium.
Now 32, ‘Mundo’ is attempting to bring another world title home to Liverpool by forcing WBC titleholder Artur Beterbiev into a mandatory defence of his green and gold belt.
French southpaw Mathieu Bauderlique, also 32, has earned the No.2 position with the WBC following nine straight victories since his only reverse in 2017. In that time, he has picked up a plethora of titles starting with the French light-heavyweight strap and culminating with the prestigious European belt.
