Get ready for Nick Kyrgios, the Netflix documentary, with the series set to have “explosive” footage from his Wimbledon run that will make for “compulsive viewing”.
Kyrgios reached his maiden Grand Slam final at Wimbledon last week, but it wasn’t to be for him on Championship Sunday as he lost the showpiece match against Novak Djokovic in four sets.
However, he still enjoyed a magical fortnight at the All England Tennis Club as he upset Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round while he also had eventful matches against Great Britain’s Paul Jubb and the United States’ Brandon Nakashima.
Of course there were plenty of drama along the way as Tsitsipas accused him of “being a bully” while he was also involved in a spitting incident during his match against Jubb as he accused a spectator of racially abusing him.
And there is good news for those who enjoyed his antics as the Netflix camera crews recorded his every movement in London with the Daily Mail reporting that the Australian “is set to make millions of pounds from a fly-on-the-wall Netflix documentary about his tempestuous Wimbledon run”.
The 27-year-old “firebrand is understood to have signed a lucrative deal with the streaming giant before the tournament, allowing producers exclusive access”.
The documentary is set to focus mainly on his final against Djokovic, but there will also be footage of other matches, his sightseeing excursions in London and the Wimbledon after party at the exclusive London nightclub Wyld with his girlfriend Costeen Hatzi and sister Halimah.
A source told the Daily Mail: “Sports documentaries are working well for Netflix. They get huge viewing figures across the world. Nick is fascinating to watch both on and off the tennis court. His antics at Wimbledon made him a household name.
“This film will feature footage, which could be explosive – and compulsive viewing. Wimbledon was a very colourful time for him.
“It is also expected to feature interviews with Nick and other members of his team.”
The documentary is expected to be similar to Formula 1’s Drive to Survive series, which follows drivers, managers and team owners on and off the track during the F1 season.
